CliP-ComE: Climate Protection Competences for European Historic Houses

The EU project CliP-ComE – Climate Protection Competences for European Historic Houses, which was funded as a Small Scale Project under Creative Europe, ran from December 2023 to November 2025. Burghauptmannschaft Österreich coordinated the project in cooperation with partners from Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria.

In the recently concluded Horizon2020 project PRO-Heritage, a certified training course was developed to educate cultural heritage professionals in CO2 reduction and energy efficiency, enabling them to become certified experts and implement corresponding measures within their organisations.

The CliP-ComE project aims to extend the outcomes of PRO-Heritage across European Historic Houses (EHH) sites throughout Europe, imparting crucial skills to professionals and owners to support the European Union's climate goals. Considering the sheer number of approximately 50,000 European Historic Houses, integrating them into national climate and energy policies is both logical and essential. Achieving this objective necessitates the expertise of highly trained craftsmen and well-informed proprietors. The project plans to train participants, identify and select trainers & ultimately establish a panel of "Climate Protection Guardians" for the implementation & promotion of the CO2 footprint of EHH cultural heritage in Europe.

The primary objectives:

  • Analysing & adapting the PRO-Heritage ECH training for EHH sites concerning existing training materials.
  • Introducing the PRO-Heritage ECH training to members of the EHH network.
  • Developing & integrating CliP-ComE into the existing EHA Online Portal to facilitate the issuance of ECQA certificates.
  • Creating training materials for the CliP-ComE Trainer for Cultural Heritage & conducting training sessions.
  • Establishing a group of EHH "Climate Protection Guardians for Cultural Heritage."
  • Developing training & instructional materials for EHH Cultural Heritage Climate Protection Guardians and providing the corresponding training & certification.
